The fundamental reason I believe everyone needs to start preparing to survive is that disasters happen. An earthquake could strike, a wildfire, or even localized flooding. But with the right set of supplies and skills, you'll be much better off if one of these events happens. Of course, depending on where you live there's going to be certain threats that are far more likely to occur. For example, where I live the threat of earthquakes is almost non-existent, but we get battered by big storms, and have had both flooding and wildfires in recent years. So it makes much more...

One of the last things on your mind when you're off at college is disaster planning. Because college is a time when you're young. You feel indestructible, so why would you even concern yourself with preparedness. You're just having a ball with all the other freshmen. Until something goes wrong. If something does happen when you're away from home, it's a good idea to have a plan in place, just in case. What you prepare now, could make all the difference in keeping you, and your friends, alive. But it's not going to be easy. There are three massive challenges...

Being a survivalist isn't a cheap endeavor. I know. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on supplies alone to ensure my family will never go without, no matter what. But it's also a challenge. When you're living paycheck to paycheck even dropping an extra $50 or $100 on some long-term items is a very difficult choice to make. At least, this is how I used to think. See, I was right there with you. Until I started looking at a breakdown of what I was spending each month, I too thought that I couldn't afford to prep. Looking at...

Let's face it. Due to the sheer amount of "stuff" we survivalists accumulate, moving home is a rather large feat. I hope I've just done my last move ever, as we shift to a relatively isolated farmhouse sitting on 16 acres of natural bush-land. There's a nice little spring, plenty of forest, and lots of deer and elk that wander in from the national park behind us. It's paradise on earth. At least for us, and I hope I never need to move again. Because we survivalists have far too much stuff. I hadn't realized just how much I had...

How long did you spend sleeping last night? If you're anything like most other Americans, your answer will be somewhere between 6 to 8 hours. Which is totally normal, because we all need to sleep. But this also presents a risk. An emergency can strike at any time, and with us spending about a third of our lives asleep, there's a pretty good chance something will happen while you're sleeping. Perhaps you've woken up to the sound of someone breaking into your kitchen, or felt the rumble of an earthquake shaking the foundations of your home. If this happened right...
